Year 2 started off Term 2 with a walk around our local neighbourhood, observing different house structures, yards and fences in preparation for our first Literacy unit entitled ‘Rose meets Mr. Wintergarten’.
We have had wonderful class discussions, sharing our ideas and information about our neighbourhood of St. Paul’s, Woodridge, and creating a short text based on our experiences. We have also been learning to identify literal and implied meaning through our neighbourhood walk and through our class text. Our first Literacy unit is nearly complete with a character description of the allusive Mr. Wintergarten, Rose’s neighbour, whom she was a little scared of because the neighbourhood children always spoke unkindly about him, but turns out to be a nice but lonely old man.
